Restoration objectives
The following principles will be taken into account for the restoration of Baldwin steam locomotives Wb 292, Wb 299 and Wd 356:
- The restoration of the locomotives to working order shall result in minimal loss of intrinsic fabric.
- Component specification shall take into account the latest available blueprint, not withstanding modern safety requirements.
- By definition, the locomotives will therefore be restored to a mechanical specification not dissimilar to that of their last years of service.
- The locomotives should be restored to a standard suitable for mainline operation.
The end result will be fully restored locomotives, as if they had been freshly outshopped from an 'A' class overhaul near the end of their working lifes.
