- Forward compatibility - design for user agents not yet released.
- Backward compatibility - accessible web documents with CSS should render gracefully in legacy user agents.
- Accessible documents benefits all users - and anticipates legislative and/or voluntary compulsion to comply
- Future dynamic generation of delivery documents via CC/PP using media-specific styles
